Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

street-marathon-1149220_1280In this day and age, we get it—it’s hard to not compare yourself to those around you. Social media influencers flaunt wealth, “perfect” bodies and a seemingly comfortable life that some of us long for. This can leave us feeling impressionable as we chase something that’s not realistic.

The best thing you can do? Stop comparing yourself to others. When we compare, we lose a sense of ourselves instead of becoming the person each of us is meant to be.

Comparing is Bad for Your Health

Did you know that constant comparison can lead to added stress in your life and body? When our body is under too much stress, we’re more susceptible to illness, poor quality of work, and disrupted sleep patterns.

Simply put, comparing yourself to others just isn’t worth it!

If you feel the need to compare yourself to someone—compare yourself to—yourself. Set goals that you can achieve and track your progress—this way, you’ll see how far you’ve come from where you started. It can help you realize what you need to do to adjust your path if you’re not seeing the results you want, while still helping keep your stress down and unlock your true potential. In addition, try surrounding yourself with like-minded people who encourage you to push yourself and be the best version of you there is.

If you have a child who is constantly comparing themselves to classmates, help them understand early on that it’s not a good thing to do. Instead, focus on the positive qualities they share and help them express those qualities.

We think you’re unique—and perfect the way you are. We hope to see you in our practice soon! Call us anytime to make your next appointment.
