Does Acupuncture Work?

Yes. Acupuncture is very effective at treating a variety of issues, which is why it is still being used over 2000 years later. Although it can’t cure every disease, it can alleviate many issues and improve your health. Acupuncture can treat both long-standing problems, as well as new problems as they arise. Acupuncture is very effective in pain management and creating balance in the body by removing blockages and allowing the body’s natural healing ability to restore leaving you feeling healthy and energized. Acupuncture is known to help people feel relaxed, reduce pain, feel less cloudy and more like themselves.

Does it Hurt?

Acupuncture does not hurt in general. Pain is always in the eye of the beholder as some people are more sensitive than others. Most people don’t feel the needles when they go in. If there is discomfort, the biggest reason is that the Acupuncture is treating a substantial imbalance and you are feeling the imbalance trying to achieve a balanced state. If you were completely well and balanced you would not feel anything.

Generally, most people just feel a dull ache that can come and go, which is energy in the body balancing. Once balanced, the ache goes away near the end of the treatment. There can be feelings of tingles, and the occasional electrical feeling or cramping, either at the site of the needle or along the meridian being treated, which is an energy pathway.

How deep do the needles go?

The needle depth depends on the size of the individual, their constitution, and the location being needled.

Do you reuse needles?

No. I use pre-sterilized disposable needles that are disposed of immediately after each treatment into a sharps container.

What should I do to prepare for an Acupuncture session?

  • Make sure you have had a snack; do not come on an empty stomach.
  • Do not come if you are overly fatigued.
  • Do not come if you are intoxicated.

How often do I need to have treatments?

Acupuncture is based on each individual, so it will be different for every person. How often you need to come is based on what condition you are treating and your current state of health, as well as how your body responds to treatment. Normally you will come for treatments twice a week for a few weeks, and then down to once a week for another week or two, then as needed or once in a while for a tune up if you need it. A typical course of treatments are 10 treatments per issue, but this can vary from person to person. Some people are fine after a few treatments and others need months of treatment. I will be happy to discuss your personal situation with you.

What is NAET?

NAET (Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Technique) is a non-invasive therapy to help eliminate sensitivities. NAET can be used on infants as well as the elderly. NAET is based on theories such as Acupuncture, Kinesiology, Nutrition, and Chiropractic principles.

The idea behind it is that when we are exposed to allergens that our bodies sense as a threat, we develop discomfort (blockages) that can present as allergic symptoms such as sneezing, stuffy and runny noses, itchy throats, etc.

We can also experience other symptoms that don’t seem like they are caused by sensitivities but actually are, such as recurring colds, unexplained pain, headaches, tiredness, emotional upsets and more. According to theories in Chinese Medicine, the discomforts we develop are blockages in our body’s energy pathways – they become blocked by these allergens due to an underlying imbalance which create the unpleasant symptoms.

NAET works at removing the blockages, which allows the body’s natural ability to heal itself, eliminate symptoms and restore health.
